Open Day May 9th

We were delighted with Open day. We saw so many new faces we were truly blessed with the number, of not only individuals, but entire families who turned up.

The demonstrations were well received - everyone joining in and having fun. I have to say seeing men belly dancing was quite an experience!! Unfortunately, belly dancing is not for men, it was created by women, for women – how sad!!

Carina teaches Belly Dance fusion which takes its influence from all over the world. She teaches styles of dance such as flamenco, Indian, tribal, American tribal style, gothic and street dance. However the main emphasis is always on traditional belly dance.

Carina teaches every Friday from 7:00 – 8:30pm.

Pilates is very strong at Kripalu. Helen has taught here for over 7 years. The demonstration led by Helen and several of her students gave people an insight into how Pilates works on ‘the core’, strengthening core muscles improving posture and flexibility. Helen is also a fully qualified Physiotherapist.

Helen teaches on Monday from 12:15 – 2:30 pm and Friday from 1:30 – 3:30 pm.

Estelle Earnshaw and Sue Saxby – Smith, our two counsellors were also in attendance and able to give information and help to people who were interested in finding out more of their work.

Estelle and Susan are here Monday through Thursday and can be contacted through the studio.

The meditation demonstration was led by Patricia, the newest of our Kripalu team. Patricia studied Ascension Meditation with the Ishaya Monks, transcendental meditation, visualisation and meditation using mantras and chanting. Meditation brings so much happiness and peace. Patricia also leads workshops on ‘Gong Yoga’ and ‘Laughter Yoga’ here at Kripalu.

Patricia teaches Meditation every Sunday from 11:00 – 12:00 pm.

The Yoga demonstration was led by Suzie Jennings, Director of Kripalu Yoga. Suzie has taught yoga at Kripalu for 10 years and has over forty years experience in Yoga.

For yoga classes please go back to Home page and view our timetable.

Pregnant women at Kripalu attend our regular classes, with special care given to their specific needs. However, if you prefer to have a specialist ‘pregnancy class’ we recommend Cherry Phillips whose email address is Cherry Phillips@tiscali.co.uk

Kripalu Yoga is very proud of its lineage and continues to maintain its truth in Yoga. Kripalu is not a commercial business. Kripalu takes its name from our Swami. Swami Kripalvananda (Bapuji) taught that Yoga without compassion is not true yoga. Yoga is not about competition. We are here to serve.

We are pleased to say we are now having talks with a Tai Chi Teacher who has the same values as Kripalu. Watch this space.

Satish Kumar Visited Kripalu

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Kripalu UK was priveleged to host Satish Kumar for a talk on January 23rd. The studio was filled to capacity and those who attended were inspired by his thoughts and his life story. One of the main themes was the idea of “unity”,  of living with an understanding that we are, all of us, connected not only to something greater than ourselves, but perhaps most importantly to one another and the world we inhabit. This is, of course the translation of the word “yoga”. He also reminded us that our greatest teachers are found in the natural world, in the trees, the river, the sun, the rain. All of these give generously, asking nothing in return. So, in keeping with the Kripalu mantra, this day as you go forth, remember to Breathe. Relax. Feel. Watch. And Allow.

About Kripalu Yoga

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

Kripalu was formed in 1966 to promote yoga and uplift the physical, mental, and spiritual well being of individuals. For more that 40 years, Kripalu has remained a place where people come together to inquire deeply into the core issues of life, explore new and healthier ways of being, and put inspiration into practice.

Kripalu’s mission remains teaching the art and science of yoga, an approach consistently proven to uplift individuals and benefit society. The techniques of yoga integrate body, mind and spirit, helping both individuals and groups flourish and perform at peak levels.

While grounded in yoga, it is important to understand that Kripalu does not espouse a narrow or sectarian mindset. According to the Kripalu tradition, yoga is an honest and unfettered inquiry into all practices, philosophies, techniques, and approaches that produce thriving for individuals, families, communities, societies, and the planet.

This “non-denominational yoga” includes perennial wisdom gleaned from all the world’s religions and spiritual traditions, together with the amazing knowledge gained from science, psychology, and contemporary researchers. It also includes healing techniques drawn from traditional, allopathic, and complementary/alternative medicine that help individuals heal and return to high levels of functioning.

Kripalu is dedicated to yoga as a rigorous, non-dogmatic and non-sectarian inquiry into the core issues of life. This kind of truth-based inquiry inevitably frees us from fears, fantasies, and distortions ad produces positive ways of being that generate beneficial results. To support rigorous inquiry and dialogue, Kripalu operates in accord with a set of core values: a commitment to authenticity, radical self-trust, the courage to fully express one’s self, and unconditional positive regard for others, Embracing these and other values is proven way to move toward the state of integrated functioning where what you think, feel, say and do are aligned and in synch.
